HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - If you are a soccer fan this game had everything you wanted.
The game was played at a high level all evening between the states top two contenders.
Campbell looked to be the more physical team as the match began, but the Warriors stamina ultimately proved to be to much for a Saber team that spent most of the night on their own side of the field.
Kamehameha forward Leah Feato’s goal off a throw in, in the 34th minute of play proved to be the only score that would be surrendered by either team.
Campbell entered the tournament as the eighth seed and on a five game winning streak, the Ewa Beach team fought hard all night. The Sabers had their opportunities late in the game, but a series of free kicks near the Warriors net went consecutively wide.
Kamehameha head coach Melissa Moore was pleased to see her team battle and hold off a gritty Saber team that would not give up.
“It was a physical game,” Moore said. “There was so much fight from both teams it was great to see such great competition.”
Kamehameha entered as the heavy favorites and the number 1 overall seed in the tournament, Warriors Carley Park was named most outstanding player of the tournament.
The win gives Kamehameha their ninth state title in girls division 1 soccer.
