HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Despite an incredible fourth quarter rally that saw the Wahine close out the game on a 23-9 run, the Rainbow Wahine basketball team ultimately fell short of their comeback bid in a 60-55 loss to UC Riverside Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Hawaii (7-12, 3-3 BWC) trailed by 19 points at the end of the third quarter and brought the game to a three-point deficit. The ‘Bows had a chance to tie the game up with under a minute remaining but couldn’t get off a clean shot as UC Riverside escaped Honolulu with the victory.
The Wahine were led by Leah Salanoa’s 17-point effort that came on 6-of-9 shooting including 4-of-5 from three-point territory.
Salanoa was the only Hawaii player to score in double-digits on the night whereas UC Riverside had two scorers surprise the 10-point mark led by Jannon Otto’s game-high 22 points (11-of-19).
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Wahine and dropped their conference record to 3-3 overall. The ‘Bows will have an opportunity to get back on track against Cal Poly on Saturday, February 2nd at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. HT.
