HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Puka Nacua and Taulia Tagovailoa have been named the 2018 Polynesian High School Football Co-Players of the Year.
Nacua led the Orem Tigers (Orem, UT) to a 12-2 season and the Utah state championship berth. He set the Utah state record for receptions (103), receiving yards (2,336) and receiving touchdowns (26) and his 2,336 receiving yards are the fifth-most all-time in a single season across all of high school football.
Tagovailoa led the Thompson Warriors (Alabaster, AL) to their first-ever championship game appearance. The soon-to-be Alabama quarterback threw for 3,728 yards, 35 passing touchdowns, ran for 417 yards and six rushing touchdowns.
Nacua and Tagovailoa were selected from a group of five Finalists that included George Holani (St. Bosco High School, CA), LB Henry To'oto'o (De La Salle High School, CA) and DT Faatui Tuitele (St. Louis High School, HI).
Both Nacua and Tagovailoa were in attendance for their awards during the Polynesian Hall of Fame Celebration Dinner tonight at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Both players will also be recognized during the Polynesian Bowl at Aloha Stadium on Saturday, January 19, live on CBS Sports Network. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. HT.
