Police make an arrest in an arson investigation after Kapolei house fire

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police have made an arrest in connection to a Kapolei house fire that was intentionally set more than a week ago.

According to police records, 26-year-old Lawrence Unpingo was arrested on suspicion of first-degree arson Friday morning.

The arrest is tired to a fire that caused approximately $185,000 in damage to the home on Kumulipo Street on Jan. 17.

Officials said a man, who was at home, managed to escape safely. A female resident was not home at the time.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

Unpingco was arrested around 9:50 a.m. in the Maunawili Area. Bail has been set at $30,000.
