HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman DeForest Buckner, a Waianae-native and graduate of Punahou School, will make his first appearance in the NFL Pro Bowl later this month.

The league announced Tuesday afternoon that Buckner, who recorded a career-high 12 sacks during the 2018 football season, was replacing Eagles lineman Fletcher Cox, who won’t play in the all-star game due to an injury.

Buckner also recorded 67 tackles and a fumble recover this season.

The last Hawaii-born player to be named to the NFL Pro Bowl was Hawaii Island’s Max Unger, who made it as a member of the New Orleans Saints last year.
