HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Twitter lit up Friday afternoon with responses to U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s announcement that she’ll run for president in 2020.

And within an hour, she was trending on the social media platform.

Supporters came out by the hundreds to celebrate the news. Opponents came out by the hundreds to bemoan it.

“So glad she decided to run,” Twitter user Rafael Castano posted. “We don’t need any more old people in office.”

“I’m all in!” added Twitter user Cameron Stark.

But others strongly opposed the idea of Gabbard’s bid for the White House, pointing to controversial decisions she’s made in the past.

And other weren’t quite sure what to think.

“Tulsi Gabbard has no name recognition,” one Twitter user said. “I’ve heard of her like three times.”

Gabbard herself took to Twitter Friday afternoon to direct users to her campaign website.

“When we stand together, united by our love for each other and for our country, there is no challenge we cannot overcome,” Gabbard tweeted.
