HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Matt Kuchar entered today’s second round at the 2019 Sony Open at 9-under par. Heading into Saturday’s third round, he’s -14.
“Just two great days,” Kuchar said after his round. “To shoot 7-under back-to-back is unexpected, but certainly awfully excited.”
Kuchar, who won the Mayakoba Golf Classic in November, moved passed Andrew Putnam on the day after a near=perfect start on the front nine.
In fact, Kuchar’s only real slip-up over the past 48 hours came on a bogey No. 15, which snapped an impressive four birdies over five holes.
“Love the golf course,” he said. “It’s a challenging one: If you play well, you can make birdies. If you don’t, you’re gonna make bogey.”
Kuchar is set to tee off in the afternoon at 1 p.m. alongside frontrunners Andrew Putnam (-13) and Chez Reavie (-10).
