HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Add another Rainbow Warrior wide receiver to the Bletnikoff Award watch list.
A couple of months after teammate John Ursua was named to the watch list for the most outstanding receiver in college football, Cedric Byrd can add his name to a prestigious list of candidates for the honor.
Byrd was one of 11 receivers throughout the country added to the list earlier today after putting up strong numbers through Hawaii’s opening five games of the season. Byrd currently ranks in the Top 10 in receiving touchdowns (6), receptions per game (8), total receiving yards (454) and total touchdowns (6).
The JUCO transfer had a team-high 11 catches each in wins over Colorado State and Navy and his 181 yards against the Rams were the most-ever for a Warrior in their debut.
The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners and other former receivers. The 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast on ESPN.
